srhuston.net aims to be a nice place where you can chat with current regulars and become one too! Bring your friends and register a channel here, we're happy to help you with getting your IRC presence setup on the network. With friendly administrators and helpful services, our goal is not only to provide a good chat experience but also to help you learn how it all works. The primary chat channel, #cWORLD, is staffed with many whose day jobs are system and network administration; so if you want to know more about how IRC works, there's people to answer those questions too!
One of our main goals right now is to teach others how IRC protocols and linking work. So if you're new to IRC, stop by and learn how things are done, and if you get the idea that you'd like to run a server yourself we're happy to teach you how that's done. Do note that this requires a little understanding of Unix, but if you already have that then you're halfway there. If you don't, there's some around who will be happy to help you while you learn it, too.
But that doesn't mean you can't just hang out and enjoy the company of friendly and helpful people either. Come on by and chat about computers and networking, ham radio, IRC, games, whatever suits your fancy. Start up your own channel and bring friends over if the existing channels aren't your cup of tea. Idle in one of those existing channels if you're too shy to start a conversation on your own. Or ask what any of these terms mean, and someone is bound to help you learn! All servers listen on standard IRC ports (6665-6669) and use SSL on ports 6697 and 9999. |
