The staff of DSN felt that most small IRC networks were becoming very biased, and as such, people were required to follow rules and regulations that would hinder free speech. One IRC network we ran into had an administrator who would require you to not associate with specific people, spend your free time talking to him, and lack sleeping, otherwise you would be removed from the network as he felt you were going to backstab him. Another had an administrator who persisted to hit on the users, and if you refused to accept his advances, he would remove you from the network. These sort of networks were giving the whole world of IRC a bad name, as everyone starts to think IRC is full of nothing but biased networks. We wanted to change this outlook, and create a network where people who wanted a place to go without the worry of being banned for what they say, do, or any other defining orientations such as sexual orientation. Thus, DSN was born. |
