This network was born out of frustration with spanko.net.   The owner was a longtime user of that irc network and what happened was the site kept charging for ludicrous things and blocked the usage of services by anyone but opers.  As a result nick registration became very difficult and channel registration became nearly impossible.  What was found  was that there were no real good alternatives to spanko.net though so this network was founded  At its founding there were three Oprs and hopefully will be more soon.
