Around the year 1997 the network started with a dozen users just goofing around (isn't that how everything starts?) after MSN had been having severe network problems when they ran IRCx which lead to their shutting down of their IRC servers. I (VJTD3) had been running a tiny IRC server so friends could keep in contact mostly. I had been playing SM for a while and much like MSN's IRC servers, they crashed and started to be down more then up. A few users had IRC server that were "backups" and down the road most fo them had their own shard of problems. To the extent that the backup servers had backup servers. When SM died after a few worms took down their game's servers Dixi and I soon became the main servers that SM users would hang out on since SM was down. To make life easier Dixi was to be considered the new place for all of SM's users. SMIN, the original network name for Dixi's server, down the road had problems and once again I was the active backup. Down the road we linked in or around the year 2000 and for the most part everything was stable after modifications were done to the servers. In 2003 we changed ircd and services types so more features could be available to users. Early in 2004 Dixi shut down his side and i started a few more IRC servers to ensure stabaility. as our history progressed a few games migrated to the network, some left and then came back. Currently we have about a dozen games on the network as well as some newer topics including "Internet Television Stations" groups that devolope tools for irc (PHP:IRC) and other groups that hang out purly for fun. Currently we are devoloping our own services for IRC. The rest well, I'll need a crystal ball for to tell you that :) | |
