The network used to be simply a private network maintained by myself. It was solely for my own entertainment and for select friends. Of course, we learned many things about IRC along the way and after about 3 years I finally gave in and purchased a domain. The network name SummitIRC was inspired by Summit Racing Equipment. I had to do much housecleaning on the network settings and O:Lines. It now supports zlib 1.2 and OpenSSL 0.9. I opened the range of ports starting at 6667 and ending at 7005. Ports 6668 and 6669 will be secured. The selected staff I allowed to remain on the public server are much more respectable and much friendlier. I still maintain everything myself, including: the physical server it runs on, the domain, e-mail, ftp, the website and, of course, all the bills ;). |
