Like so many networks we too started out with a mixture of curiosity about IRCd's and because we were unhappy with the network we regulary visited. Although we didn't think to have any potential to even come close in "replacing" the original network we did hope that the setup might provide a little more fun for some users.
Our network started out as 2 individual hobby "networks". One had 2 peers and called itself 'CatNet', the other had approx. 3 - 4 peers without a name. The global user ratio at that time wasn't very high.
After a little incident on the originating network one admin basicly contacted the other and asked if he felt like hooking up and starting something ourselves, which resulted in what we call the 'Big Link'. This happened on 28/02/2005. Right after our network was linked we immediatly saw some potential and it got discussed here and there, resulting in a lot of people who either moved or started visiting our network on a regular basis.
Right from that moment on we realized that this was growing into something bigger which also needed some regulation. We immediatly started with an oper policy so that we could avoid the risk of getting into situations in which (new) opers would abuse their privileges, perhaps without even knowing it. Almost immediatly after that we finished our user policy and as per 01/04/2005 we consider ourselves to be a small but serious new IRC network. | |
