Original K9 was created in 1996 by NU-TECH software solutions staffs BP and Dr-Who.
The original K9 was similar to the old X/W from undernet. It had it's "levels" ranging from 0 to 500 (above 500 for channel service members) commands like OP, DEOP, VOICE, DEVOICE, KICK, BAN were level 100. Others like ADDUSER, REMUSER, etc, were level 400 and ADDMASK, REMMASK, GUARDT, and GUARDM were level 450. The channel owners had access to all these commands, and the only ones they were privy to were the SAY, ACT, and SND commands to make the bot do silly things in the channel.
The unique thing about K9 was because of his name, people gave him a personality. He was referred to as "the dog" and the regular members of the network had affection for their channel services unlike other networks.
In 2002 when K9 left due to D.O.S attacks against NU-TECH software, a simple version of Andrew Church's ircservices was modified to have the names Dogtag/k9 and was brought to chatnet prematurely. But after quite a long time of anarchy, chaos, racism on chatnet, we quit developing K9/DogTag for them.
In 2005, we've created K9World with lovely and peaceful users, a serious administration, highly skilled staff, stable, improved, bugs-fixed K9/DogTag and plus MemoServ, BlogServ, KW services in it. | |
