Everything started in late 2001 in a little channel #codehack on IRCnet. Channel beign taked by some strangers often, what makes visitors confused. In February 2002 one of us said that his friend is preparing to run own irc network.
Officialy on 18th March 2002 we became a part of FlexNet IRC network as irc.pl.flexnet.org. Everything was ok, but everyone had other point of view for network future what caused inter-opers conflicts and finally network destroy.
From May to October 2003 our server was single ircd server where we experimented with different ircd versions such as irc2.10.x, hybrid, unreal.
Then in October 2003 we have found another network when we could link it was IRC2.pl. Our server name beginly was irc.dump.hu and finally irc.irc2.hu. In May 2004 there happen another distressing accident which caused another network split. Most of servers delinked from IRC2.pl and linked IRC2.hu.
In September 2004 we have cleaned IRC2 structure, decided to delink empty servers and remove o-line for opers who made abuse on the network. For now IRC2 is consist of irc.irc2.hu and irc.vsip.pl.
We make use of a customised version of the ircd-ratbox called ircd-happy and a slightly modified version of the ircservices package, so all the regular services such as NickServ, ChanServ & MemoServ are available to connecting clients.
Unfortunately one of our admins has left the world of IRC, which meant the end for a strong polish connection and the ircd-happy project as well, which was followed by a change to the first stable version of Inspircd, that has served the needs of users for more than two years.
Lots of busy websites have made their appearences on IRC2, including different torrent and matefinder sites and private webchats too. One day we felt sorry about our server's many years of solitude and tried to join another hungarian IRC network, unsuccessfully. This is partly responsible for the the currently running UnrealIRCd.
IRC2 is constantly and actively trying to grow and expand it's appeal and user base. New chatters and groups of chatters are always welcome to visit and join us. If you would like us to setup a channel for your organization, game server, or any other group please don't hesitate to contact us. |
