The founders of ECNet was a small group of experienced IRC operators and admins who had several channels and were looking for a stable, secure, and nice place. As they found, even many small networks are political and come with the greater problems associated (lag, overhead, netsplits). To combat this, they began ECNet, a network dedicated to the users and against politics and abuse.
