In september 2004 we developed ChatAutism. It originally evolved from AFF (www.aspiesforfreedom.com) where one of the founders, Amy, decided that it would be a good idea to set up another site aimed at parents of children on the autistic spectrum.
At the same time, we wanted to start an IRC network for the autistic community and those with an interest in autism as no such network had ever existed. We felt that it would be more beneficial to have a whole network just for this topic so we could have numerous channels and people in the community could setup their own channels there.
So we decided to set up our own IRC network called chatautism.
The first server became autopia and is one of many servers to come that will be running on home ADSL connections. Following autopia, a 2nd server was added and this became known as maya.
Currently, chatautism is rapidly expanding with new channels for various autism sites being added.
We now have 4 servers, and 5 admin, 20 rooms and approx 50 users regularly. We have now switched to the Charybdis IRCD and atheme for services. | |
