AppliedIRC has a history as a network called "skenmy::irc", which was a personal network run by the network founder, skenmy. He originally started with a single server, which rapidly branched out to 5 individual servers!
The staff of AppliedIRC are generally long-standing users or administrators from other networks. We keep our staff size small in order to be able to work closely with each other in keeping the network as stable as we possibly can.
Even with the 5 server network, the user count refused to grow. When 3 of the 5 servers finaly split away, AppliedIRC reformed itself as a new network. After completing a network migration to a new server infrastructure in Germany at the end of 2006, the network grew exponentially, taking on a whole community of new users, and still continues to grow all the time. | |
