Unspecific IRC would like to expand the user base that we already currently have. If you think that you can help ... Then feel free to connect directly ... irc.unspecific.net .... Staff/IRC Operators are also required (this doesn't mean to say you will get it).

intempo aka eth01's network is run on a ntl cable network which is likely to give him a random ip at some point not to mention loads of lag and probably runs a high risk of being unstable.

traceroute shows all for those who dont believe me.

I've already settled into my spots on various IRC networks - what could yours possibly offer that would convince me to leave my friends on the networks I already visit?

1. It is not hosted on any "ntl cable network". In addition, it's also called VirginMedia/ntl:Telewest not "ntl".

2. It's hosted in a UK data center, which last time I checked was where the BBC hosted at least 5 servers! (to my knowledge)

If I compare myself with the BBC, then ....

Our main aim is to ultimately help FOSS projects extend. Whether it be by developers, end-users or even ideas etc. Each project is individual, and no "standard practice" applies. This is the one of the ethics our network holds.

alright.

throughout this forum i usually see 3 people who constantly ask the same question to every post about any network: "how is yours different" followed by "bitch, bitch, bitch...why would i ever want to join your network?"

ok, don't join. quit asking the same pointless questions.

Some D/C who use NTL?
Quote:
$ host irc.unspecific.net
irc.unspecific.net has address 82.17.65.189
$ host 82.17.65.189
189.65.17.82.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer cpc2-stkp3-0-0-cust444.manc.cable.ntl.com.

Id say thats pretty conclusive, not only does it have an ntl.com reverse host, it has a cable.ntl.com reverse host suggesting "cable" and the IP block is owned by NTL.

Firstly, NTL do not host my IRC network. VirginMedia/ntl:Telewest do, both of which are owned by the same company. NTL was bought out by VirginMedia. ntl:Telewest are the guys who provide corporate connectivity -- who coincidently, host my IRC network and other stuff too.

That does not mean to say, that I'm hosting my IRC network on a "two bit flimsy, laggy, home-hosted, cable connection". I can assure you that I'm not.

In all good faith to this forum, and from somewhat previous experience that I have here. It's in my best interest to make this my final input. It's gone off track, completely.

Also. If somebody wants to host their IRC network of a cable connection, then let them do so! What harm does it cause you? Yes, it might be unprofessional, and remind you of "script kiddies" but thats got sweet F.A to do with you. Contrary to belief.

Chat amongst yourselves. Show over. If you have a problem, come and speak to me on unspecific.

I dont have any problem with you hosting on a cable connection, as from my own experiance they can be just as stable as any other connection. My problem with it was that you claimed you were not hostig on a cable connection and to add to that claimed that you was hosting in the same datacenter as the BBC.

Not to choose sides, but:

The BBC operates their own IP network (AS2818). They're even a member of LINX...
