Hey guys,

The WildIRC Network is looking to promote and expand its online Radio. Please visit us at irc.WildIRC.Net and www.WildIRC.Net if any DJ's are interested.

We are looking for DJ's who are willing to setup on our network and create a radio show for our users and potential users. We are willing to work with our DJ's in anyway regarding showtimes. (We have so much available)

There is much opportunity available to DJ's who want to establish themselves here at the WildIRC Network

Please speak to myself or Xaphan if you are interested.

Thanks

I see this quite a bit actually and I was wondering, exactlly what can an IRC network offer DJ's?

After all the 2 have nothing in common other than they want more users/listeners.

Yeah I was going to ask too. Personally, I think networks which have "shoutcast" are lame, and I doubt I would ever listen.

This is probably related to the fact that most network radio would be emo or rap or something.

Well my question is spawned from a more technical angle, such as protocol vs protocol. Sure the DJ can use CTCP and broadcast played songs that way, but all the clients would need the same files and it's not very efficient. Streaming would definately be the better solution for DJ's to play thier music. Which really has nothing to do with IRC. So I'm at a loss of what an IRC network can do to support a radio station other than perhaps offering a chat backend of sorts maybe some webspace, which honestly can be found on any of the 4000+ networks.

So that's why I'm asking, what kind of colaboration can an IRC network do with a radio station? How exactly can the network "support" the DJ's?

Too many IRC networks, do this "SHOUTcast" crap to try and coax users in, don't waste your time or others for that matter.

I don't understand whats wrong with listening to a stream while you chat? Whats is so different and so wrong? Its no different than listening to music while you drive a car?

Its because ircmojo has nothing better to do with his pathetic little life but bitch and complain all day long about other people's ideas. Honestly, I see nothing but whining and complaining from this person. What a sad, sad life he must lead.

I think that intempo did most of the complaining. ircmojo was only asking what you could offer to a radio station. Not that there is anything wrong, but why should such a radio station go to you?

You should really learn how to read English.

I wasn't complaining at all, not even close. I asked a valid question in an attempt to understand a subject I know very little about, that being the relationship between an irc network and an internet radio station.

I don't see anything wrong with it either. Some will use it, and others won't. What is getting old is people labeling something as "lame" simply because they don't want to use it, or don't find it useful. It may have nothing to do with IRC, but then again, neither does DCC - yet almost every client supports it. Providing a stream for users (whether directly incorporated into IRC or not) is really no different.

As for what an IRC network can offer an Internet Radio Station -- I'd say, mostly listeners. I know a few stations where the bulk of their listeners are from the IRC channels or networks that support them.
