In truth, the recommended IRC sites list came about as reciprocal links - a long time ago when I was setting up version 2 of SearchIRC.
Basically, I wrote to all the major IRC related websites at the time, and those who provided links to us, I linked back. The purpose of which is for SEO - pagerank. I have not updated that page since then. |

That was how it was intended. We even listed users 'currently online' with their profile links on the front page. Unfortunately we ended up with a shitload of spammers because of it, so I took that out. |
