yeah, forced join sucks and you will drive away more users than you keep regardless of how useful YOU think it is.

I'd lose the forced join as well. A lot of users will view that as invasion to their privacy, and subsequently leave.

yeah but the majority of the users there are what i call "noobs" not to bright how to use /list and find the room i think its useful until we get a greater user mass??

MOTD's are useful for showing users basics like /list and /join #MAINCHANNEL

Especially when at the end of the MOTD, and that way users still have a choice.

For example:

If you would like a list of channels you can join type /list
Feel free to join us in #CHANNEL by typing /join #CHANNEL

i agree with jobe, on a slightly different scale, you can use "logonnews" (or what ever your services you use; call it) to announce on connect what channel they could join.

some people dont like the auto-join cos they like to goto a server do /lusers and leave if its not high enough.
