Just going thru the forums, and hey plenty of unread posts - as I go thru, I'm reading posts that I've read before and at the same time, I think "hey wait, didn't I reply to this?"
Did the DB get rolled back to its last backup or something? |

| did a software upgrade this afternoon, and the database was magically corrupted, with missing MYD files. Had to restore from last night. |

Not being able to post topics with less than five total posts in discussion forum = valid idea.
Not being able to post topics with less than five total posts in a low-traffic speciality forum, where developers might want to announce their projects (ircds/services comes to mind) = bad idea. ditto locking threads older than 31 days - in some of those less trodden forums, more than 3/4 of the posts on page 1 are older than 31 days.
I couldn't post this as a new topic due to the above restriction. I appreciate your problem with spammers, but you're hurting the valid users too much. |

Kuja, as an admin (I refer to being an admin in general, I am not an admin for SearchIRC), one has to make some rather tough decisions and with every decision, there's always pros and cons. | Quote: | | Not being able to post topics with less than five total posts in a low-traffic speciality forum, where developers might want to announce their projects (ircds/services comes to mind) = bad idea. | Spammers make no distinction between a high volume forum, and a specialty forum - they'll spam it all anyway | Quote: | | ditto locking threads older than 31 days - in some of those less trodden forums, more than 3/4 of the posts on page 1 are older than 31 days. | So what topic age limit do you propose? (and I highly doubt no limit would be an option) Again, this was a pros vs cons decision. Some people who want to post to older topics may have something perfectly valid and relevent to say while most who dredge up the topics from the graveyard just want somewhere to get their first few posts, or want to spam. |

less than 15 posts is new.
you'll note we don't see spam on here anymore, and I haven't been deleting any either.
Just for you, I've changed it to go based on account age, instead of post count. 7 days, in case you're wondering. |
