Just a random suggestion that i would find useful, would it be possible to view networks by age? e.g. networks older than 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, etc...

This would let people find established networks or new networks depending what it is there looking for.

Aye, looks like a good idea to me ... Smile

Would be interesting to bash in some 'old haunts' and see if they are still around.

only one problem, i don't store when a network was added to sirc...

so we could only do this if we had a section for the network admin to fill in.

Ya but come on, thats EFnet...EFnet only exists in the nerdiest of realities...EFnet doesnt have an age, EFnet was started by the Greeks back in 500BC along with the first computer, cant remember what it was called, its 8:20am, so ya. Worst thing is, Im nerdy enough to know about EFnet, and hah, Im sure most of you guys are the same.

Thats the end of my random comment of the day, please tune in tomorrow same time, EFnet time zone. Smile

I know it wouldnt exactl be accurate but you could look at the first registered date for the domain name and use that as the creation date for already existing networks. I accept this would require a lot of work and would in most cases not provide an accurate or even valid date but it wouldnt be that far off except in rare cases.

so what? Give it a few months and if joe smoe's net is still about, then good on joe, if not problem solved. To me, the feature isnt really about "who was around the longest" its about

a) finding new networks i might want to look at, so new networks.

or

b) finding a network that isnt likly to vanish in the next week or so, i.e. one thats been around for say 2 months or more.

Supposing this started now, and everyone had the same date, if the network is still there in a years time, who cares if efnet and joe's network both say 1 year - its enough to say yeah ok, there both established networks.

there is always the scrawl history to go off that is used for the graphs etc, that would come the closest to being accurate for when searchirc started indexing the networks

It seems like the channel count in the networks lists is inaccurate.
