I've started work on this gaming bot. I think I can pull it off, but it may take a while to code Razz If I put this bot up on a website for download once I finish it, would you try it out?

I'm just tryin to get a feel for if people would be interested in something like this.

Thanks!

-> *lifebot* info
-LifeBot- Thank you for your interest in LifeIRC!
-LifeBot- LifeIRC is a multiplayer roleplaying game where everything
-LifeBot- you do has a global impact on other players in one way or another,
-LifeBot- and every choice you make determines the path your virtual "life"
-LifeBot- takes. LifeIRC could best be described as "Multiplayer Sims on IRC."
-LifeBot- However, unlike the Sims, LifeIRC is ALOT more in-depth, down to the
-LifeBot- real-world working Stock Market, Job Market, stores, and companies
-LifeBot- ran by other players themselves. If you decide you want to take the
-LifeBot- good path and get a degree by going to college, perhaps you will become
-LifeBot- lucky enough to be able to purchase your own company, in which case
-LifeBot- YOU determine who you hire and fire, what their jobs will be, and
-LifeBot- which direction the company will take. Or, perhaps you will become an
-LifeBot- underground mob boss, blowing up rival companies while protecting your
-LifeBot- friends companies (who, by the way, pay you a handsome sum for protecting them.)
-LifeBot- Or, maybe you will preform a hit on one of your enemies and completely
-LifeBot- end their game play all together, forcing them to start over.
-LifeBot- The options are endless, and the game play intense and addictive.
-LifeBot- Go ahead, give it a shot. Just watch your back at all times, because
-LifeBot- you never know who has your address Wink
-LifeBot-
-LifeBot- LifeIRC is written and programmed by EviL_SmUrF.
-LifeBot- You can find him, as well as the game, at irc.betterchat.net.
-LifeBot- This is LifeIRC version .1.
-LifeBot- End of info.

Good 'ol mIRC script while i continue learning C in college. Hash tables are da roxor Wink

I'm faily confident I can pull it off with mIRC script. I have ALOT of experience coding hard things with it, and the databases will be stored via /writeini and hashtables. Easy enough Smile

Once I learn enough C, I will port it over to its own eggdrop-like bot, possibly.

I've tried a few hashtable vs ini file speed tests .. and everyone said that ini was faster than hashtables.

secondly .. I'd have to say no thanks to the game. I have enough real life everyday .. if it was a good fantasy RPG .. I'd think about it.

You are amazing katsklaw, you must have been reading my mind, " I have enough real life everyday" and was going to add that too.You beat me too it. lol

Bot games anit got the time, prefer chat instead.

wow, writing to a text file was faster than writing to mirc's built in database stuff? crazy Surprised

I'm gonna go with hash tables for most of the database stuff, such as account registrations and whatnot just cause for me itll be alot easier Razz

the test wrote to and from hash tables and ini files .. it also dumped data from the hashtable to files (which as we both know that's where the data is stored when mIRC isn't running.)

The tests were limited to very small files though. I'm sure that the more data used, the more difference there is. Personally I've never used hash tables ... nothing in my script requires me to. It don't seem easier to me to read from a file to cache then read from the hash table then dump back to file later .. I just can't see that as "easier". but oh well. Smile

Good luck with your game though.

eh well, to me its easier to retrieve and work with the data in hash tables than ini files, but then again i havent done either of them in years. i'll just have to see how the coding goes and swing it as i work with it :p

and thanks Smile

I have reason to believe that all mIRC scripts are open source.

It might be available for public release whenever I finish coding it. It depends on if I am happy with how it turns out or not Smile

Don't sweat it dude, you asked if it was open source before he said it was a mIRC script.
