Currently I am using Anope 1.6.3 and think it works great ... I have noticed a lot of networks are running the unstable/devel of Anope 1.7.x - is there any benefit to upgrading to 1.7.x? New features compared to 1.6.x?
We're running ircd-ratbox - which runs great for what we need - and now with adding Anope [stable] 1.6.3 - was curious to know if it is worth moving/upgrading to 1.7.x and what is the upgrade path... docs/faq etc.
Thanks for any input you may have or insight that might enlighten us.

1. "Unstable" is a relative term and can only be defined by you. From my experience 1.7.9 hs been just as stable as 1.6.3.
2. There are many changes such as in 1.7.9 the services commands are modular so that you can unload the commands you don't want/like.
3. Services sets umode -a to opers not on the Services Admin list.
4. Added support for a few IRCds.
5. 1.7.9 is closer to phase 3 than 1.6.3
6. There are many many more, check the change file for full details. (1.7.x changelog file is 532 lines long if that helps you.)

You get 1.7.9 from the same place as 1.6.3 http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=94081 |

well the decision was made to upgrade to 1.7.10 with the help of Rob and angelic from anope.org.
Thank you the both of you for all your input - always a pleasure dealing with ppl that are friendly.
irc.Bixxnet.net is now using Anope-1.7.10 ...

ultimately, it comes down to viability.
you must ask yourself if you need a few more whistles and bells, or if there is any real need to upgrade. If you are satisfied with your current setup and there's no security issues plaguing it, then in my opinion, there's no need to upgrade |

unfortunately we had to downgrade back to 1.6.3 - due to mixed ratbox versions and 2 admins still running ratbox 1.5.2 and no TS6 - 1.7.x Anope started a Seg crash which we cannot control - Rob was quite helpful in dealing with these issues ... but ultimately the problem lies with the last 2 remaining server(s) running older ratbox releases.
I am hoping that these get upgraded within the next 2 weeks so i can complete this upgrade.
Thanks for the input ladies and gents!
