for the bots to get all users, it would need an O:line and then again, it would litually kill his bandwidth on e.g quakenet....
think... over 200.000 users = over 400.000 lines of text thats just the minimal. i would say, the way its currently running is more than perfect.

1) can we make it to where it sorts according to which nets the user was found on first, not just the user count of the nets?

2) how is this information being requested? is it through search-irc bots, or is it through some ircd command, or what?

1) I don't know why that would matter, or be useful. It isn't only server speed, but when the bot gets the whois request.

2) It's done by /whois :)

OK.. how about a feature where you could select the networks to search?
the bots could then join on a per-request basis, thereby eliminating the need for 800 bots all the time.

It would work, but the results would take a while to get, especially considering that some networks take over a minute to connect.

People already complain that the current whois takes too long for results...

there's many people requesting to search more networks... but since it consume a large amount of memory or bandwidth we need think another ways...

so, why not let the searchirc's user select 5 networks to search ?

and the whois info could be more informative...
i think it'll be better if show all raws returned...

well... thanks anyway.. ^^

Here's an idea .. connect to your normal/favorite IRC Network and /whois your friend using your favorite IRC Client. If they aren't there .. then they are probably off line or hiding and don't wish to be found.

hello!
GREAT GREAT STUFF! this is something I have dreamed of years ago and I am very happy to see it finally!

well, the ideia of reducing to 5 networks does not quite resolve the issue here, but it's a start point I think...

I am now asking for what it might be a simple, but still usefull ideia...

-------------------------------JAVASCRIPT ?--------------------------------

can u make a javascript or something so we can put this great tool in a website? I would be very appreciated...
if you do make such a script please contact me... Very Happy

thnx!

tbf - although it may be good on the bigger nets - IF it extends to the smaller nets and someone is looking for you then this tool would make it so much easier. If this come into practice for all nets, i sure wont want my network involved!!

I think the idea of the drop down box for other networks would work good. maybe you wouldnt need the bot on there all the time taking up bandwith. Maybe just when some one would choose a specific network the bot could join temporarily and do the /whois then leave when done tell that network was called for again. this way it could save on memory and bandwith for each bot would not have to stay on one particualr network for more then a short period of time. Just long enough to check the channel list then do the /whois on the nick as well. Just and idea really.
