| SearchIRC is once again ad free. The Google Adsense ads were pulling in close to nothing (under $1 per day most days), so I've given up on them. |

Maybe, but pushing ads on the SearchIRC visitors for a measly $40 a month doesn't seem worth it.
The server fees alone run over $300 a month.
That's 13% of the hosting fees. A lunch at chili's will run me more than that. |

Perhaps you should actively seek donations from people?
I'd be more than willing to, you are all friendly wonderful people providing a great service... the only problem: I dont have any money, and am currently in a state of only tenuous employment
When I _do_ have any, I'll let you know |

Whilst I'm in favour of not seeing people lose huge ammounts of money over their hobbies, especially those that provide a valuable service to all of us - at the same time I find that a lack of ads on a site is most welcome from the visitor's point of view. |

It is always a fine line with a hobby, what can you afford to pay, and like many of us here i would hate to see searchirc go under because Jason needs the money for something else in real life
thank you Jason for the wonderful service you do, maybe somemore of the networks could sign up for a small ad?? (As I know quite a few of us do value here)

I don't like asking for donations any more than I like ads.
I'm not looking for a hand out. That is what asking for donations feels like to me.
At least with ads the visitors don't pay a dime. The problem was Google wasn't paying me a dime either, well, not enough to matter.
As far as network ads, we had a few people sign up, but it wasn't enough to matter either. So I've also removed the signup pages.
Before anyone starts to worry, I have no intention of shutting down SearchIRC. But it's once again coming 100% out of my pocket.
It would be nice to have it self supporting, but .... I am in the same boat as anyone running an IRC network. It almost seems fitting. |
