Hi All,
We have been using Net IRc1.2 in our office for the past few weeks. We have installed the Microsoft Exchange 2000 in the Advanced server which is a domain controller itself. Now that our aim is to have the password authenticated login into the NetIrc. So what we did is added all the user names in the server and gave the user names of 2000 Advanced server as the nick names in Net Irc and enabled the option Basic Authenticatio and unchecked the Anonymous access in the server.
After having made all the necessary changes, when we tried login into the NetIrc after giving the nick name and password, it gave us an authenticaiton failure error message. No one was able to login into the Net Irc.
I would like to have some suggestions and helps on how to acheive the authenticated based logins to Net Irc. Also i would like to know if the user names in the 2000 Advanced server is same as that of the nick names of Irc or the Real names of Irc.
Many Thanks

why not :
Run a normal ircd, like http://bahamut.dal.net
Run anope (http://www.anope.org) irc services
Use modules.anope.org to download two modules,
one to permit only opers to register nicknames, and the other to akill anyone who does
not identify to nickserv upon joining the network for 5 minitues.
This is a much easier, open source way to do what you are doing,
it looks like it would require much less hassle, no money, and you'd get free support for it.
Few, if any, decent ircds run on windows....... it's just a fact. Sorry.
I have no experience with Net IRC but I know that it is easy to do what you're trying to do
for free using open source tools.

I don't know anything about Net IRc1.2 but I can say in most clients, the name before the @ sign in the e-mail address portion actually acts as your username for the server account name. The password would still go in the normal place. That is the authentication process for mIRC.
I assume you are talking about the usernames being put in your active directory for the server. That is the only way you will get authentication. Also make sure you are using the Active Directory Connector (ADC) that comes with Exchange 2000.
That is what I know of it. I hope it helps. |
