... can be such a headache.
My dedicated server is being attacked hard right now. Why? I found a botnet on a user's account. I visit their net (they're a hub on Fisix, which is listed here i believe), and find out they are posting nude pics of a little girl. i figure you know what, freedom of speech is great but i dont need a legal hassle on my hands and thats just wrong beyond words. so i shut down the account. no questions asked, no refund. it was GONE.
now my customers are suffering because of some script kiddies.
gotta love it. |

Update:
Versehost (my host) is exceedingly shitty. rather than actually *gasp* filtering an attack and taking steps to alleviate the problem, they are trying to just drop me. |

| Filtering and stuff costs money. I have a funny feeling they didn't know what they were getting into when they decided to host IRCd's-you need more than just filters to block ddos, you need a serious firewall thats monitored 24/7. |

Well thats the problem nowadays-you can't almost enforce rules, if you enforce against the wrong person, they unleash a botnet of exploited machines at you.
You almost have to cringe every time you akill someone, you don't know if they will try and take revenge on you. |

| after 3 days in limbo, its looking like i'm going to have to change hosts. i doubt i'll be able to get any backups off the old one. so i'll have to force a couple hundred users to re-register all their nicks and wade through all the tedious configs. because some hacker kids wanted to flex their e-penis. |

| Don't give up that easy-email the ISP and see if they can send you a zip of your data on the provider. Most of them will cheerily do so, especially if you're having a problem that prevents you from getting it yourself. |
