Hi, im from unitedchat.org, we are a fairly decent sized network... We exerienced a big blow from the FOONET situation, but we are back online and are back up to ~80 users and 2 servers at the moment....
We have a friendly staff that will help you with anything and an excellent routing team that can set your ircd up for you within minutes...
Our staff will also help you with any Channel related issue you have, wether its with setting up a channel or help learning commands or how to do certain things...
We currently run HybServ services which includes NickServ, ChanServ, StatsServ, SeenServ, HelpServ, MemoServ, and for our opers OperServ...
If you have any questions or would like to link email me at stuck@unitedchat.org or just loggin to our irc at:

What Ib3N is saying is you have far too many servers for the number of users you have:
if you have 14 servers, you can hold at least 14000 users, but you don't need even one 140th of that size. Also, the more servers you introduce the more you risk the chance of a netsplit, and the more opers you need to monitor the servers. For 14 servers, and to keep them stable you could be looking at possibly 50 opers, which would be ummmm, half your userbase? |

I have 23 servers and 1200 users.
Why? Redundancy. If one server goes down, everyone gets right back on. If there is a major internet clamity, then we're down to maybe 10 or so.
6 servers are cool, but what if 3 of those suddenly went down? Then you have double the load on the remaining 3.
Right now if I have a server split, I lose maybe 40 people. With 6 servers and 1000 people, I would dump 200 immedietely.
I'd prefer the former. Also, with the capacity I have, I don't have to panic tommorrow if I suddenly get a large channel moving onto the network. I know I have the capacity, and I don't have to worry about shell accounts suddenly going way over alloted bandwidth, etc either. I can handle a ton of users without having to suddenly fiddle around with stuff, or contact shell providers and get bandwidth increased quickly lest I or other people linked to me get overage charges.
To each thier own though. I don't have many problems with splits with this many servers, and everything stays fast this way. But, if you can do it with 6 servers, more power to you. I would just cringe with that many servers when one crashes though, you lose 1/6th of your capacity right there. I prefer the loss of 1/23rd of my capacity instead. Sounds like less of an impact to me
Also, you don't need 5 IRCops on each server. One IRCop (the owner) of the server is more than sufficent. In fact, if the IRCd is stable, you don't even need that-just a stable shell and a crontab. Global opers can handle issues on servers they don't have ops on-works perfectly fine. |
