| Well, SearchIRC is getting bigger and bigger and bigger and it only has a few moderators in which arent around all the time. I would like to know if they should get there own irc.searchirc.com server. If not a server at least a support channel on another IRC server then? |

i believe they used to have one that was hosted by sIRC, however i'm not sure if it just wasn't used much, abused, or why it stopped..
per sIRC being hosted elsewhere by other networks; i believe this has been debated before and would be likely misconstrued as supporting or favoring a network (i believe sIRC is neutral)
just my vague recollection.. |

I try to be active on these forums as and when possible, but of course I still have real life duties to attend to such as my job (something's gotta pay the bills) |

| We had it for a while, but it was boring, barely anyone visited, and when they did, it was when everyone else was AFK. So in terms of support, it sucked. Much better to process things in a queue or automate it. |

If you're going to setup something, why not just make a channel on freenode?
Considering most people who would want to use it won't be able to survive efnet or any other services-less networks, set it up on freenode, whoever joins joins, and nobody can really be butthurt that you didn't place it on $12_USER_SERVER and I don't really think freenode will be too bothered about the presense (or lack of) #searchirc. |

I don't think there is any point in a server or a channel. A server would probably get 10 lurkers, it would be pointless. Same thing with a channel, it will just be another place for people to lurk.
Also people may raise the argument "but it would be easier for people to get help with using searchirc". It wont be easier. if a user needs help and they visit the irc server they have to hope that the moderators or other people who can help are online. If nobody is online they get no help at all. However if they post for help on the forums, it is guarenteed that the moderators will read it and assist were they can. |

Putting a #Channel on any server/network other than their own creates a conflict of interest, which is why they had their own server to start with, but as stated, no one used it as pointed out several times. |

Ok, as katsklaw (and others) have repeatedly stated - we once had a server specifically for SearchIRC, it fell out of regular use so thus became pointless. SearchIRC will *never* run any form of channel on anyone else's network so there's no point in even suggesting it.
If Jason decides down the track that an IRC server for SIRC is necessary, he will - at his own discretion - set one up to fulfil that purpose.
