For most networks in SearchIRC, we have one or two points of contacts configured. These people are emailed when a network is approved for listing. They are also notified if their network is deactivated/reactivated.

I was thinking about putting in two new functionality changes to automate the system a bit more:

1. Automatically emailing network contacts when a SearchIRC robot is banned/klined/killed. Right now they don't know anything - if a bot is banned I will eventually deactivate the listing. The contacts are notified. If they fix it, they then ask for a reactivate, and this entire process is drawn out and takes a while to complete. If I notify on an issue, they can fix it before it becomes a problem.

2. Some networks WANT to be deactivated. Right now our response is to ban the robot, then we eventually delist it. What I suggest is the email that is sent out in response to a kline/kill include some text like: "If you'd like to delist your network from SearchIRC, please kill or kline our indexer using the text <someRandomText>". This will allow the network to be deactivated by a representative who is receiving contact info from SearchIRC without allowing rogue opers to randomly deactivate (this seems to happen a lot).

Let me know what you guys think.

Some sort of 'reactivate network' button for deactivated networks in the control panel would probably save a fair bit of work for you guys too, and result in less forum posts from those who cannot read the FAQ :]

can't give that much access. Many networks try to have multiple listings. If we add a network, they "change" to a new domain, then they could reactivate the previously deactivated network.

maybe an extra field in the networks table (if you don't already have it); a TRUE/FALSE or 1/0 bitfield that is hte governing logic as to whether or not a network may reactvate itself... so the bot being banned would set that field to 1 (allow reactivate by network), falsifying any data would result in a 0, etc...

Just put in the code for admin notification about ban occurrences.

I am also removing the email / web form contact us page. Instead it will route you to a new admin help forum area. That way issues can be looked at publicly and more than just one or two sirc admins can assist.
