Because it's easy to configure and includes a lot of "toy" features most other IRC's find either intrusive or not needed

This is like the "Whats your favourite flavour of Linux?" Alot of people may run redhat, mandrake or suse9. I like Unrealircd for its continous updateing, makes me fell that people are putting energy into it. I also like it because its extreamly easy to setup, so easy, most 10 to 100 year olds can set it up on windows as a wIRCd.

I also find it easy to use mainly because i have used it for so long, and can update it in 3 to 5 min.

Also if you type in IRCd/irc server in google you have a good chance of it poping up because soo many people use it and it has a google rating of 6/10.

I also wish to respect others who can use ircu, hybrid, or any other ircd as i think they are great ircds too,

Its just a solid ircd that has good support and updates as problems are found.

Anope services are the same way, which is why I have used both for over 2 years now.

Not to detract from your point, U, but according to www.anope.org, Anope Services have just turned One, meaning it's unlikely you have used it for 2+ years. Smile I'm guessing you meant Epona or some other similar set of services. However, I do agree; I use the Unreal/Anope combination myself and enjoy it thoroughly.

As Anope is the continuation of Epona, that statement is very much true Very Happy

I mean Epona, then Anope. Just used the current name.

Lets just say I was around when Epona first got hostserv Smile I remember installing that and learning it.

I think Unreal is so popular because its modular. because of how its made if you want a certain option you can usually find a module that has been made already or write you own. Versitility is the key Very Happy

I've used a lot of different servers in my time, ircplus, cr, unreal, hybrid, ratbox. By far ratbox has been my favorite of them all. Unreal is just a server full of toys. A bit overloaded at times I think. It's constantly updated because there are new problems being found with it. I just think there is more than you need to run a server. Way more than you need.
