|
|
I'm in the process of changing the name of my network, and wondering how to go about getting the info changed on SIRC. I hesitate to just submit the network under the new name as I intend to leave the old domain pointing at the servers and it would show up as a duplicate. The information for the network is as follows:
Old network: AshlandPC
irc.ashlandpc.com
New network: Digital Dystopia
irc.digitaldystopia.net
The easiest thing to do would probably be just to remove the old network so I can resubmit the network under the new name (yes, I've read the TOS that you don't remove networks, but from my perspective this would probably be the easiest way to change things)
Thanks in advance for taking a look at this. |

| As it seems the admins don't read the forums any more I'll just try banning the bot and submitting the network under the new name and hope for the best. |

For your information, the admins DO have lives outside of SearchIRC that they have to tend to.
The official route for a network name change is either using the contact link, or just changing the network name on all the servers and then submit the new network, which is what I did when I changed my first net from .co.uk to .net thus allowing the removal of .co.uk from the net name. |

I do realize the admins have lives outside SIRC. It had been nearly 2 weeks since the post with not so much as a single reply and the topic just below mine has gone nearly a month with no reply. What else am I to believe? The fact that you answered the somewhat negative post of mine with a somewhat negative post of your own less than 2 hours later shows that at least someone reads the forums. Why you didn't post when it could have actually been of some help (before I banned the bot) is beyond me. Perhaps you'd rather flame people than actually be of any help, but who knows?
Simply submitting the new network wouldn't have worked as the old domain still points at it and it would have shown up as a duplicate and been rejected. I've banned the bot, so tomorrow some time I'll resubmit under the new name. Not the fastest solution as it takes about a week for the network to get approved and on the list (due to the fact that the admins have lives outside SIRC) but it works. |

| Not to mention, there's only a few who have ability to approve or modify things like this, and with limited help and time of each of those individuals, its rather difficult. But, how about putting together a small 3-4 member team that deals with approvals of network submissions, network info modifications and such? I will volunteer, and I am decently active. With a few more members with this capability, it may speed the process of things like this up and help take the load off of the current searchirc staff. |

| banning the robot is acceptable as long as you don't change names and have the old IP routed to the new network BEFORE you ban. If you do that, then the robot will see the new network hosts on the old network and think your new network submission is part of an existing network :) |

Thank you for your response Jason. It looks like the bot will confuse the new network name for the existing network because I did change everything over before I banned the bot. I'm not sure exactly how to proceed now that I know that. Please let me know what would be the best thing to do at this point. The ban was set for 2 days, so it'll expire by the weekend if I don't lift it sooner. I can extend it if the bot should stay banned longer than that.
Thanks again for the help. |
