What are some ways to speed up the connect times on Unreal?
Is ident check really needed? |

since there are a fair few clients (x-chat and mIRC come to mind) who run their own identd servers, thus make it all to easy to make one up, i find identd to be an unncessesary check.
Turning of IP resolution will also speed up connection times. |

| What are (if any) disadvantages to turning off resolve IP? |

| None, it's mainly the user that benefits from it and would check the reverse host (if it exists) against the connecting ip and set it, otherwise they will just get a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ip instead of a blah.blah.tld host on irc. |

IP resolution won't take that much time.
The ones that do block connections are NOSPOOF (m_conn_waitpong in insp), ident (m_ident) and I guess DNS resolution (though that tends to be reasonably quick the first time, and near instant after). |
