If you go into the DALnet IRC Network, you'll find that its largest channel, #Jakarta, has grown from only 10 users to 2200 users during its peak.

While if you go to Quakenet, you'll find this message when you want to join the #Jakarta channel:

#jakarta Cannot join channel (G-lined: Channel Closed)

No specific reason giving into this channel closing. However, I will tell you the real story behind this mystery.

In 2004, the pakistan people with nick "Lily007" register #jakarta. It grews from only 5 users to average of 120 users in 2005. As it attract many users from other IRC network to join the channel, many new comers, who are the INDONESIAN, coming into the channel and try to take over the channel for the reason that "JAKARTA is the capital city of Indonesia, therefore the owner of #Jakarta should be an Indonesian, not a Pakistany".

As the times goes by, many indonesian people from #Bandung (#Jakarta competitor) get an OP access in #jakarta. They start building strategy to take over the channel. This is what they do:

Those Indonesian OP in #jakarta (which actually the Operator of #Bandung) held a @ status in #jakarta. When they hold the @ status in #jakarta, they abuse many channel, by flooding, mass-advertising and mass-inviting in many channels including in #help.

The reason why they did it is to make the name of all OPs of #jakarta very bad in the Quakenet Admins eyes. And they did it, they abuse #help when the Quakenet IRCOps is online. When the IRCOps saw that they are the Ops of #jakarta, they thought that all the OPs of #jakarta are irresponsible. Not in just 5 minutes from the abuse time, #jakarta is G-line as what you may see now.

Are the Quakenet admin/IRCOps are very easy to fool? or they're actually Idiots?

The worst part is that if you state "jakarta" word in #help, you'll get ban from it. They closed their eyes, their ears and even their heart for many potential users who can make "#jakarta" far away better.

I said this true story on the behalf of all users of #Indonesia. We want #jakarta, and I'm ready to control it the best i can if the channel is opened again. And I'm ready to fight with #bandung Ops and take over that channel if possible. That abusive channel should been closed down, not #jakarta.

You can find me on Quakenet IRC Network for further information regarding this issue. My Q auth is "ariya". I usually stay in #Indonesia, #Surabaya and #Quakezone - The Real Indonesian Channel in Quakenet.

Thanks for your attention.

You ask if the Quakenet admins are this 'easily fooled' yet the ops in #jakarta must have been just as fooled as the admins by letting the espionage happen in the first place...

From what I've seen the majority of networks only close channels if the owner themselves are involved in the abuse, or if the abuse from a particular channel is so severe. Surely people from your channel should have realised what was going on when they started spamming around the network (as I'm sure you would have had at least a few people join your channel and politely ask you not to spam).

I don't think using this forum is good idea to get in contact with the Quakenet administrators - I doubt many of them read them.. I would have thought your best bet was to use one of their support channels.

Ok jakarta is name of a capital, but in many other places in the world jarjata in other languages could be a word/slag expression for something we arnt aware of, but just because one automaticly thinks its named after a country and they are entitled to be the op's/owner is completely wrong, its a first come first serve basis.

1. Why should channels be in competition with other, it's just plain real time text, you get no advantages of being biggest, most popular, most ops, most voice etc, that is just plain silly to make a competitor channel.

2. If you planned a take over you all deserve a gline, for the reason above competition/rivals of 2 channels is just lame, silly and pathetic behaviour.

They are neither, they reserve the right to deny you access to a server or channel and they done the easiest option, stop either party having the channel.

This is where I agree with you, (but same thing applies to above) that the people in #help are blatenly ignorant, they show no profession to being helpers or opers (credit to those who are active) and they can be quite childish for the least things.

If it's glined, best thing you can do is accept it, quakenet opers wont listen to you and any potential threat of abuse is quickly removed, in this case #jarkata was the abuse and you brought it only upon yourselfs to get that channel glined, just goes to show a lesson. you cant always get what you want by stealing but accepted what you got and be happy with it, in your case you wernt happy enough so you tried to steal, got cought and both sides lost out.

Please understand though this isnt a bash at you or your users, but at the end of the day if quakenet have closed the channel move on, pestering them (from personal experience) will only get you ignored or klined eventually.

Things most users forget:

1> You have no rights on IRC ... ever ... period.
2> Your access/connection can be revoked for any reason, including no reason at all
3> Channels can be closed for any reason, including no reason at all
4> Complaining here has a 99% failure rate (other than irritating people that never cared to start with, in which case it has a 100% success rate)
5> The ONLY people that can remotely help you are the admins of the network in question. (be prepared to hear about #1-3)
6> All the above has always been true since IRC was invented.
