No other ircd protocol has it's own section, why should IRCx be so special. Yes, IRCx is an ircd protocol.

So you are not confused, IRC in IRCx and in IRCd mean the same thing. Internet Relay Chat.

ON IRC there are 2 protocols in play, 1 is basically the client protocol as described by RFC1459 and the server protocol, which defines what features, modes and abilities the daemon it's self has, this includes how the daemons communicate to each other when linked together.

IRCx is an extension of IRC, but so is any other IRC daemons protocol. The daemon protocol is what IRCx uses to define all it's lovely features, that is no different than any other daemon.

There is no such thing as IRCx and all other daemons are called IRCd .. IRCx servers are daemons too. IRCd is nothing more than a term that means IRC Daemon and it refers to ANY IRC Server .. not all IRC Servers except IRCx.

If you wanted to get technical about it IRCx is not the only daemon with IRC extensions. ALL modern IRCd's are extensions of the original IRC protocol.

ircu
CR
hybrid .. etc

They all have extended the IRC functionality. IRCx is no the only one. However, unlike IRCx and CR are closed source IRCd's and server admins can not expand the protocol any further. With regular IRC daemon software that are Open Source, like Unreal, the protocol can be extended to do nearly anything within reason. Which is a huge advantage other IRCd's have over IRCx.

What that means is that you can name any IRCx feature and there is another IRCd that has the feature or can have the feature after the IRCd's coding team writes it in. Unfortunately, you can't do that with IRCx.

hmm oddly theres alot of open source IRCx servers out there.. just not for public download yet... but we are getting there

You can still use it on regular IRC servers, only they dont filter out the extra crap that goes to non-ircx users

When I first saw people using it, I thought they were spam bots or something.

They kept saying (#@3409238409238409823) crap, and then asked dumb questions. I don't recall if I started to ban them from channels or not, but it wasn't till later when I tried out the client that I understood.

Those poor people thought we looked like lame cartoon characters.
