Mirc 6.13 exploit (Warning virus)

It seems like the first irc virus of 2004 is alive, and acting like a mirc update. This morning several spammers, joined the network im currently operating on, and started spamming with the following:

IMPORTANT: It has recently been reported that there is a major bug in -mIRC6.12, allowing malicous users to execute commands remotely, update your mIRC with a patch file you can get it from {URL removed for time being} and help us eradicate this threat, ENJOY & Happy New Year! - Network Security Team

Have any one else had this problem ? in that case, how dangerus is the virus,and what dos it do ?

1 person including me on my network were infected by it, i dont think its that harmful, nortan didnt pick it up so either its new, or just non destructive *shrugz*

I removed the download URL - since it is not an official mIRC download site. Also, the subject states it is a 6.13 exploit, but the message says it is a 6.12 exploit.

There is a post on the mIRC BB about it, its not anything you'd want, I think. We added blocks for it this morning, so far have only seen one occurance of it.

It apparrantly also only infects people using IE. There aren't many details about it yet, but I'm guessing if its being mass-messaged, its probably not something anyone would want Smile

According to the mIRC web site, that patch is phony, and actually installs a Trojan if the user is using MSIE.

If you think you may have been infected, you should grab AVG and/or Ad-aware

I got the trojan on my computer and i got kicked/banned from several channels Sad

. It said i was spamming and I had no idea it was doing it until i had been ousted from several channels. I ran ad-aware and reinstalled mirc, should that fix it, or do you have any ideas to how fix it? Confused
