As of This morning, Feb 23, 2008, we are no longer a meta-network. We have all agreed to simply merge into a single, unified network. Our current NetReps were moved into an Executive Board where they will be in charge of creating and maintaining the rules that govern our network.
This change was to prevent user confusion as Asmo pointed out in regards to what network the user is on. We will be consolidating all of our secondary help channels on each specific network into 2 help channels, #Help and #CService. No other changes should be visible to users other than staff positioning.
We still have all our servers named as they were and will not be requiring them to change names and take on our domain name of *.collectiveirc.net. Each server is welcome to change names if they so choose, but there will be no requirement, after all it's just a name.
As such indexers will not see any difference at all in our set-up since meta-networking is a social practice and has absolutely no technical bearing on the IRC it's self on any technical level nor did it ever have such a bearing at least as far as CollectiveIRC is concerned.
We are now a normal network with each server having the choice as to what to be named, which is no different than the oldest IRC network in existance, EFNet.
Everyone is still welcome to come see what makes us unique at irc.collectiveirc.net Create your own channel and stick around or just drop in to say hi.
regards,
