Hi SIRC staff,

I have a new project I'm working on where entire networks link into an existing network that we call a "hive". basiclly what we do is run a group of dedicated hub servers and services and other networks link to us and we as a whole share services. By doing this, it can and likely will cause inaccurate user counts on networks that have linked to us.

What I'd like is a solution that we can use that will not taint, abuse or otherwise cause ill side effects for SIRC.

Our page is at http://wiki.collectiveirc.net

ircmojo, familiarize yourself with the IRC RFC's. Servers that can talk to each other form a network. If you combine networks, the result is one network - because all servers can talk to each other.

SIRC calls combined networks metanetworks. We list them under one name. If the network admins cannot decide on a name, we take a look at the server list, websites, etc, and decide which name is dominant, then list the network under that name. Scrawl will visit the dominant domain rr to collect the channel list.

Anything else would be unfair to other networks and result in duplication of data.

I understand all of this completely, including how IRC works, in fact it's the reason for my post. I have a group of dedicated hubs that other existing networks, that you already index, will be allowed to link to create a larger "metanetwork" as you call it.

My question is what do you want me to tell the network admins that link into my already established "metanetwork" they need to do about scrawl?

My core network is indexed here and I just linked my first network, which is also indexed here. I'll likely be adding 2 more networks very soon and both are also indexed here.

In short, I'm informing you that my project will likely cause some inaccuracies unless we come up with a solution. Please understand that I would not know that my project would cause such a disruption unless I already knew what I was doing. I'm asking you, how do you want me to handle this? I don't want you to have inaccurate data anymore than you do.

Ahh, gotcha.

Just PM the names of the metanetwork (ie, the one name chosen where the channel list will appear on SIRC) and all of the networks that no longer want Scrawl. I will stop the bot from connecting so we don't duplicate chan info.

Thanks, and good luck!

Easy enough, thanks Smile

Actually I'll need to submit an entry for the main list as I renamed ircmojo to collectiveirc, and collectiveirc is what we want the list under.

I'll have that info to you shortly.

New domain = new net. You'll need to register collectiveirc as a new network.

understand, that's what I'm doing. I need to get mail working first and then I'll get you all the info at one time Smile Or does it matter what email address I use to submit?

thanks again.

When you register a new network you are validated through your email - so you need it working to set that up. You can PM or email the rest of the info to me - ie, which networks are part of collectiveirc.
