what was your nick? i did auto join on start since when i had it way back and asked my friends to come, they had the nerve to ask "what room do i join" when i am in the bigger room since its my net. and every time they came or new ppl they had to ask me on msn on what room to join or what is the main room. auto join kinda fixes that and helps to keep all the hiding people pop out

As good as your intentions were with set::join-on-connect, not every user enjoys being told what channel they have to be in when they connect to the network. I would suggest that you have something big, bold, and unmissable in your MOTDs pointing out the main channel, and/or have a bot /invite them (at least they would then have a choice with either option)

that is correct what pingbad said and/or make use of logonnews to annouce the channel, that way if the client is set to ignore motd's on connect they wont be able to miss a simple notice from services.

I did connect, but left immediately also after being auto-joined.

I find auto join abusive to say the least, as for my nick it don't matter as i will not return to your network as i said in my other post.
Good luck with your search.

i guess only you 3 dont like auto join when connect. but alot of others find it easier, and if they didnt want to join that channel then simply they can exit out and look for another one(which there are not that many other rooms since not alot of people know about it

A lot of users who would of expressed their same views tend not to now due to them getting flamed by users who dont intend to make any decent or useful posts.

I am pretty sure the odds would be against you if them users who dislike autojoin would come forward and express their views on the matter.

My reason for hating auto-join, when I connect sometimes I like to idle and go unnoticed for a little and join when i am ready not when server admins tell my client todo so, also with new networks i like to go unnoticed as i like to see how they are setup, how they operate, if its a warez network or not, again not forced and immediately expose my presence by being autojoined.

Some users get abused by opers for minimal trivial things like they just dont like that user etc, so if the user was to try and conceal himself from the oper and just get on with chatting his channel without being a victim of oper abuse then he/she wouldnt.

Bots esp eggdrops don't like being forced into channels, even though they would immediately part as quick as they are joined some tcl scripts would note the channel as actually being in the chanlist which causes problems in that sense then.

Whats more easy than putting the channel in your MOTD or LOGONNEWS and the user either double clicking the channel name or typing that ever so simple comming /JOIN #channel? There isnt anything more easier and it gives them the choice to join or not then, why give them just the choice to part if they dont want to be there in the first place?

I wish unrealircd coders and all other ircd that have forced join would remove it.

However forced join can be useful in few other matters like:-

1. Forced join on "oper", this is quite useful i think and is active on one of the two networks i oper on.
2. If the network/server(s) chose not to allow users to create channels but rather only join those created by opers, then forced join is quite useful.

well i was use to hackers in the past just coming on when no opers were around and then just idling for the longest of time and then i start seeing random ppl leaving , idk but your right . auto join is kinda bad in some ways... but it isnt that worse to like keep pointing it out. at least i know who comes on my server, when they leave is when they leave, at least ill know if som1 joined and not hiding amoungst everyone. its not a big killer to type /part or somthing. just thought ppl would join the main rooms first anyways. i know that most people when they come on a server they dont want to join a room with 3 ppl compared to a 20+ room. so i think i saved that trouble to some ppl that like the auto join. well anyways other people to check out services and what not b4 coming in rooms, why not just join the room and see whats being used, is it really necessary to wait untill u see what services is being used b4 going in a room? and besides the opers , there all kind .

To me nope, i join and conceal my presence as much as i can to any new network so i can familiarise myself with their setup, what kind of channels and users they have. i.e If i joined a network full of warez/illegal trading then I would simply quit and not look back on it again.

If i joined a network that had a mixture of warez and chat chans or even just chat chans then i would hang around a little.

I wouldnt question your opers personal approach to new or current users as there are some really nice opers out there, but it's a shame that those who are an immediate fan of glines and kill spoil irc experience for others, imho (nothing against you or your network) auto-join or being forced into channels or do other things like part my client when i didnt chose to is something i dislike, but others may like it and i wouldnt hold them up for that.

Going on about auto-join is probably just as bad i agree thats why i am going to cease rambling on about it as its mixed opinion.

lol ok. i havent used a gline is god knows how long, i kinda made a rule to not gline ANYONE in general, maybe a kill but we still have to kinda discuss that amoung the other opers. anyways, the auto join thing is a kinda half not like and half like, and just kinda got ppl that dont like it to debate on the subject . its cool. well besides that. and besides the auto join, its a chat place not warz. just looking for new people to talk to since u talk to the same people for like the longest of time it would be cool to meet some1 new that joins your server outa nowhere. good to see new faces just come along without u knowing them.
