It seems that there's a lot of drama on SearchIRC within the last few years. I'd be willing to blame that on hormonal issues, but anyway, that's not the point.

Of course on an internet forum, sparks will fly, but, I'd like to point out a few threads (the "greatest hits") where things have gotten particularly nasty.

I would like to know why people just can't get along?

On the other side, the "Sense of Humour crew" seems to keep many people in good spirits. Kudos to them.

Anyway since most of the crap here is drama, I propose that somebody synopsize the day's drama and attach it to the thread, so that we know which threads to just automatically write off as crap.

We'll start with the recent threads as of today:

* http://searchirc.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=5875
* http://searchirc.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=43116
* http://searchirc.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=43098
* http://searchirc.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=43056
* http://searchirc.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=43044
* http://searchirc.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=43106

The above threads are due to some "bad interaction" between two SearchIRC users. For the sake of transparency, I will not mention specifics, you can go look for yourself.

Can we stop this childish stuff? Thanks. I really would like to see this effort of cataloging SIRC drama fail because there is no more drama on SIRC to catalog.

Thanks in advance,
- your friendly nenolod.

top words, loddy... and great examples provided. I agree that there is too much drama on the boards - one of the reasons why I'm slowly moving away from SIRC as a whole. Grow up people, seriously!

definately.

What happened to the moderation that was once here before, it was quite strong and efficient to stop people attacking other people rather than just attacking idea, its like it the whole idea of moderation has gone soft here.

As much as I'd like to agree, and I do agree that there should be less drama. Please don't get me wrong there.

IRC == Drama.

IRC has always been dramatic, Read the history of the 5 oldest IRC networks. 10, 15 year old networks. You'll likely find that they have one thing in common ... drama. Most networks are splits from other networks because user1 didn't like user2's way of running the network or group1 vs group2. Although not all networks start this way, and not all networks wear their drama for all to see, it is most definately at the heart of nearly every network in existance in one form or another. Where you have power (admin/ircop/chanop status) you have power hungry people, where there are power hungry people, there will always be some form of drama.

As you nenolod, for the sake of transparency, the specifics and technical differences of my statement are not timportant, but the underlying point is still that drama on IRC is not new. It's always been there my friend, it's now found it's way to web forums. Also don't take this rudely, but you don't have to be here, you are free to never return to SIRC, as do all of us have such a choice, but guess where we are. That's right here amidst the drama Smile I've also stated before that you don't have to read all of the threads, read the ones you are interested in and then click the "mark all threads as read" on the main community page. Not all of the topics here are designed to please everyone, so it makes sense that a person should read what they like and discard the rest. You don't go to the grocer and buy 1 of everything now do you? Of course not, you skip over what you are not interested in. You also don't complain to the manager that there are things in the store you think are stupid/gross/silly/useless but it seems that's exactlly what you are doing here with this thread Complaining because there are things you don't agree with and it is also troll fodder. You KNOW that this thread won't go unread by trolls. So in a sense you have just started even more drama, inadvertantly I'm sure.

Welcome to IRC.

Thanks for the post ircmojo, except, SIRC being served by "Apache", is not IRC.

Welcome to HTTP. Very Happy

(also, who cares about trolls, my point that I am trying to make is that more moderation is needed to keep the peace around here.)

[Raven]__

cease and desist

nenolod, yes I understand the protocols involved with this conversation. If you truely didn't care about trolls you wouldn't complain about them so much. Personally, they don't bother me, I know how to ignore them thus have no reason to whine about the moderation of them or their posts.

SIRC is moderated as they see fit, if you can't accept that, you are free to leave. Whiners are just as bad as trolls.

At anyrate, good luck on your quest.

It's IRC! It's always gonna be full of drama.

But anyway my favorite post for [Rav3n] would have to be.

Quote:
I have 9 years of irc experience i dont relay on google like everyone. I just asked a simple question. telling people to use google means ur a lazy fuckhead that doesnt wanna explain shit.

He's calling me a lazyfuck head for telling him to google it. It's all fun in games. So just enjoy life and don't let the smallest immature things in life get to you.

I respect your opinion nenolod though.

Such as [Rav3n] is saying.

For the record, I didn't target your threads for any particular reason. The point of this is to ask that people think (with their brains, not with other things that people might think with) before posting. Wink

It doesn't bother me none that you did to be honest. I agree! People do need to use there brains more often. It's hard to say this but including me.
