i received an email from a detective in the usa, stating that he has reason to believe that a user on my network has been soliciting minors for sex. so far i am yet to see any logs or be told the offender's nickname.
i have safety information on my network web site, and the rules clearly state that using the network for the promotion of illegal activities is forbidden, and that illegal conduct will not be tolerated.
anything that happens in private message or in a private channel is not logged.
does anyone have any idea on my legal position? am i liable for what happens on my servers? |

I find it hard to believe that a *real* detective wouldn't at least give you the offenders nickname. It's not really possible for you to do anything without it.
Still, your best bet is to talk to a licensed and certified lawyer in your country, not this forum.
Good Luck. |

| I would also ask him what office he is from as well as a case number and phone number where you can reach him at if he can't even give you that then hes not legit. Also, you do not have to provide anything without a warrent. |

| sounds like a fake, last time i was running IRC servers we had one like that i asked him for all this stuff, and he never contacted me back, so i banned his IP that i got from his email from using the servers, his IP came from some where in Mother russia. i would not be worried about it, he is just trying to scare you. |
