I accept donations on my network : P

I don't ask people really do it, but its there if people like to pay, as with my network as it is with most out there, its a public network, as much as I like providing a free place for people, it is nice to have people provide a little support back into it for stuff.

So doesn't really go to waste necessarily, as with my network I always make sure it goes into the network bills when its a network donation.

IRC Networks are non-profit organizations. Nothing wrong with asking for donations

Keep the flaming to a minimum dude, altho I agree with the fact that FBI hasn't worded his message in the best possible way

I, personally, have no problems in networks asking for donations (not to the level a couple of networks have gone to, but in the sense that they have provided a user with an option to support the network should the user decide to do so)

Why not? being a server admin is a one way fund-trip: out of your pocket. Why shouldn't the users help support the network they use?

I don't see how someone supporting a service they enjoy is a donation going to waste.

Anyway, back when irc.blackened... was still around, we allowed users to make donations, and specify what it was to be used for -- which quite a few people did. Even if it wasn'tmuch, it was better than nothing.

Donations can be a good thing, but sometimes, someone who's donated feels that gives them special consideration when it comes to the server and their place there or when they break a rule, that they will not be punished at all or as harshly.

Yes, there is the problem of human nature... specifically: "you don't get something for nothing" so the user may feel that the network owes them something by way of favor or leniency. Perhaps the networks offering the option for the users to donate should state that donating will not gain them any "special favors" from the staff
