Population does not dictate the definition of "network". A network can have 1 user just a non-networked server can have thousands of users.

I will admit that only 1 user on a network where the founding admin admits to have little or no time to grow his/her network is rather folly.

If an admin doesn't have time to grow their network, to be honest and harsh about it, they should just shut it down. It takes hundreds if not thousands of hours to properly grow a network and if you don't have that kind of time you are already doomed.

Scoops, I do wish you luck on your search. However, if such a person exists that can run a network and attract users, they are already doing so for themselves. Such a person doesn't need to seek out someone like yourself that has a few servers linked and no time to do anything with it.

Setting up the software is the easiest part of starting a network and it's easier to set up software than to find a dead network where the admin has no time. Personaly, if I was in that kind of position I'd think the network wasn't mine because I grew it, you didn't. See where I'm coming from?

Good luck.

ircmojo I dont think you see my point that 1 user was me, but I agree with you on the point if you dont have the time then you should save some $ and close the servers. Just about any idiot can get ircd/services compiled and link a few server. But that has little to do with running a network.
As stated before best of luck to the original poster.

I did see your point. I just didn't come right out and say "you're wrong". A "network" is a group of servers connected together for collaborative purposes. It has nothing to do with the number of users connected. So whether the user is you, me or the Easter Bunny is irrelevent. 1 or 100,000 makes no difference to the definition of "network". So even with 0 users, it's still a network because there were 3 servers.

Peace.

Hrm, nice sentence structure Stefano. Neutral

Although I suppose it "could" work in theory, I don't see deligating the overall operation of a network to someone else being to successful. I think the problem most run into when they attempt to start an irc network is the time and energy it can take to actually get it off the ground and have continous growth and expansion. I think most people don't want to put that much time and effort into it, which is sad in a way, as it can be a rewarding thing to see your network grow and become something wondeful.

As far as a definition of a network, I agree it can have a handful or 1000 users, and either would be a network. Personally, I do not count the userbase itself as the single definition of what a network is, or the success or lack there of.
