Hey, i'm the founder of a network called krikket(irc.krikket.net). The network has been up for quiet a few months, and we have 4 servers in it. My question is how do I promote the network, how do I actually get users on it? Our toughest strougle (other then keeping then up 24/7) is getting users on this network. I created a home page for it, registered for searchirc, what else can I do?

Our server has many focuses, mainly amost computer geeks, ipv6 and linux, as well as gaming in general.

Consider looking for a group of people who're trying to increase their own userbase and recruit the entire group. Smile (btw, hey dmb Very Happy )

Merging with larger networks can be a do'able option as well if you are truley interested in the cause and not just your own popularity. You just have to be real careful and be sure your networks needs match the network you are merging with. Be picky and don't do "same day marriages" for no one.

With nearly 4000 other networks, there is an excellent chance that someone else has already thought of your idea, for example there are at least 6 "gaming networks" and countless nets for "geeks".

Ive found quite a good way to get users is to set up certain things then advertise in these forums.
For instance my net (irc.serfer.co.uk) set up-
an idlerpg bot posted a article about it we immediatly got users.
we started a #linux channel and immediatly got users
when we first set services up that bought in about 5 users.
those are my suggestions.
We have also recently set up a discussion channel.
We will be discussing topics of the users choice which will be posted in the topic. To suggest a topic please email me at jacobbran@gmail.com with #discussion as the subject. Then join on irc.serfer.co.uk, and discuss.

try to offer something that no other network offers, be unquie, if you look at most of the irc networks that are out there, they are all the same, only diffrence is the people on there. does it seem like a supprize that 99% of networks have very little people on them?

Good idea however many room owners, server ops are paranoid of this. Some of my people have been banned from rooms/servers for even talking about our server.

As to the ops issue, i find some of the better run servers are actually run by a committee this tends to keep revenge bans in check and allow for a better exchange of ideas. May of the staff on my server actually have regular phone conversations. We also have regular ops/owners meetings at which emergency bans are discussed and either aproved or rejected.

Our Ageplay server is based on a town theme, complete with a message board and website. I know it sounds like its been done but pm me for the url to the site(im new on the forums and it wont let me include it) and have a look at how we've set it up. My wife has done most of the html, im biassed but think she has done a great job.

i create websites.. the best way i found is by slapping a java applet auto connecting to the server somewhere on the site. With a link to it on the front page of the site.. This can make it pretty popular.

I do a live support channel for each site.. or sometimes just simply add basic chat channels as an added feature to the site.
