Hey all! I just wanted to get the word out that the RIAA has passed a law that U.S. citizens can vote against on a petition that has quite a few people (almost 20k) signing and needs your help.
The issue is that internet radios that play and pay money for songs they do play are getting charged an amount already that these groups, whether small (such as WoR radio) or grand sized ones Yahoo, already pay willingly. However, it was just recently passed that these groups will have to pay a 100% increase on the songs they play for those who listen to online radio which is pretty ridiculous if you think about it. They are already doing the service of paying per song they play and if this passes they must pay an increase now that will sink many internet radios and also prevent lesser known bands from being heard so people can have some differences in music.
If you don't want to see this happen, please go to > http://www.petitiononline.com/SIR2007r/petition.html and sign the petition there to assist in making this stop.
Thanks! |

Online petitions rarely get noticed by those who the partitions are against (in this case, the RIAA). Secondly, the RIAA doesn't have the power to pass laws - they can brow beat senators, governors and politicians into passing the notion, but thats about it. Thirdly, good luck RIAA trying to act the world music cop. I'm not for piracy in any form, but I highly doubt broadcasters in (say) China or Japan would sit up and eyebulge at what (to them) seems like an irrelevent group trying to bloat its pockets.
But hey, if it makes a difference, I'll sign
[EDIT: Turns out only American citizens and residents are eligable... guess I'm eliminated :/] |

Well if you really wanna start up a radio station you have to pay 40$ a month to play licensed songs on the internet.
With so much unlicensed radio stations poping up every few minutes I geuss the RIAA has no other choice but to act |
