| Ummmm... I'm sorry but if im not mistaken, an OS does not come preinstalled with java or flash? So what should it matter, the flash chat wont work for them until they download the macromedia drivers... Same as java.... Make any sense? |

Sorry to bump an old thread, but:
We have recently written an inspircd module which means you no longer need 'gateways' to connect to inspircd servers with flash: http://www.inspircd.org/wiki/XMLSocket_Module_%28Shockwave_Flash/Ajax_IRC_Bridge%29
The problem is though, that very few good flash irc clients exist. Maybe someone should write one, now that the facility is there to natively talk to an opensource ircd from flash?
NB: There are indeed lots of flash clients out there, but out of all the ones i found, most of them are a pain to set up (need recompiling and i dont have the tools to do so) or, totally pee on the RFCs. |

Sorry but it does, ask any other Mac OS X user. | Fedora Core 3 doesn't (and some people still use it) - but then again, it's an optional component, I remember having to manually install both on a full FC installation a few yrs back |

You missed the point!, Loser said (s)he was not sure if Java or flash came preinstalled, I'm simpliy pointing out the fact it does with OS X. I never once said Linux or any other OS apart from OS X came preinstalled with Java/flash. |

| Generally if somebody's using linux anyways, most of the time they know what an IRC client is. |
