Well, its official... Telecom must split and open up its copper network to its competitors. As a New Zealand broadband user, all I can really say to this is about freaking time. NZ has been lagging for some time, and this is one measure to finally help us catch up to the rest of the online world.

The whole PingBad thing was brought about due to a dial-up modem upgrade during my fragging days. We went from a 33.6 (crap for downloads, awesomely low latency) to a 56.6 (rawk'n downloads, absoultely useless for online games) modem. From that, PingBad was born... |

Most likely because having an asymetric connection, especially at dial-up speeds makes it worst since the data flow rate isn't the same.
