Well, one of the points of forums is that the topic are archived forever, and anyone can bring back a topic if they please. However, it is diferent when someone bumps 3 yr old topics just for spamming or pointless purposes.

If no one is posting in it, doesn't that mean it's dead?

btw, I've enabled pruning in some of the forums.

If you want to put your 2 cents in on a topic, just start a new thread and reference the old one.

I've made a number of changes to the forum, including increasing the lock time to 120 days, instead of 31.

Ill be happy to "bring up this dead topic" or whatever the hell you guys call it. Forums are made to be referenced and reposted and referenced and reposted...Its a circle of how this shit was made. I do not agree with you Jason and find that you guys are taking the wrong measures to better this place. There are worse things that people do on the forums, way worse, then bringing alive dead topics. Its like, ok, in a support forum, someone has a question, but he finds there is a topic 3 months old that nobody has responded too about his problem. Maybe there isnt entirely enough information to resolve it. Instead of starting a whole new thread, he posts his question on that so called "dead topic" and gets more responses. Let alone that keeps the forums from getting filled with more crap, and people can easily reference from the previous posts. Oh well, it aint just the users I see making this place worse...

That was MY PERSONAL OPINION
Flame it all you want, but I reserve my freedom of speech.

Nobody said anything against digging up dead threads if you've got a perfectly valid point. Other then that unless youve got anything valid to contribute to the thread there is no reason to even post. The problem that was almost but not entirely stopped by disallowing posting in really old threads was that of new members posting in the oldest threads they could find just to reach the post count they needed to post (what most of the time is a complete waste of time) a new topic (usually to spam for their network).

Still...Even that is stupid, needing 5 posts to post a new topic. Cause Jason, you KNOW all they usually do is spam the forums to get those post totals up. I remember my first 5 posts, I actually contributed to open discussions. Some people dont like doing that, dont force them. Your just causing more spam than preventing what it seems your trying to prevent. I say we take off the limit.

Code:
                if(!$userdata['user_posts']) {
                        message_die(GENERAL_MESSAGE, "Sorry, users with less than 1 post cannot create new threads.");
                }

It's one post. Not 5.
