| Don't you think that'd be the most likely place for spammers to want to spam though? |

The following forums are exempt from the 5 post limit:- Network Announcements
- Anope -> General, 1.6.x Support, 1.7.x Support, Modules
- IRC Help
I've noticed people just post 5 useless posts in the other forums just to put their 2-cents worth in those particular forums (or just post new topics in those forums as guests) |

| Or you could do what I do, and require image verification in order to register. When you give users a goal(5 posts to make a thread in this case), i find that they take the easiest rout to gaining that goal's reward. This may include spamming, and useless posts. |

If need be.... Why not make an introduction forum, and require atleast one new thread in that forum before a new thread can be posted anywhere else? Hell, you can even make it so no-one can post until a thread is made there.
Not only would this cut down on spamming (Or limit the spamming to one forum only) but it would give all our users a place to say hello, and introduce themself.
If you need help implementing somthing like that, PM me. I've done it on one other phpbb board. I'll see if i can fish up the changes i made for you. |

Yes, I completly agree.. When I opened this account, it was to ask for help with a searchIRC issue. But as I was not able to post in the support forum I had to make contact via E-mail.
I'm sure that must make the admins job harder! |

Forum games is always fun. You know the ones like...
I say "food"
next person says "dog" because the last letter of food is "d"
next person says "goat"
I am also a newbie, and i've been trying to find topic in which is can "post" so i can get my 5 posts |

Hello,
I'm pretty new and would very much present my irc network, but I'm not able since I have to post 5 threads before I can do that. I don't know, but would it be an idea to let people that have their newly IRC Network added be given the uppertunity to present their network:?: |

| Ok I understand that it's a bit annoying truly it is. But if you stop and consider how much useless bs spam would appear otherwise, it's understandable. I might be wrong here, but I don't think the staff are being paid to moderate these boards, so they do it in their freetime because they like doing it. Which means that while they are here to assist everyone who needs help, the main goal is also to keep their job as easy as possible. So by eliminating the needs to have a moderator checking boards every few minutes makes it a little harder for new people to post then I'm sorry but I would make the same decision as well. |

I will confess, I'm a newbie here. So I may be a bit biased. However, I have to agree: The minimum of 5 posts is quite annoying.
"Why?", you may ask? Because at first, all I really wanted to do was make a short post to the 'Suggestions / Comments' forum. I had a suggestion that I thought might improve this site for everyone. I wanted to post about it while it was still fresh on my mind. What could be more innocent? However, it did not seem to fit into an established thread.
As a result, I was force to wade through countless old forums and threads to find several subjects I could post about. But my heart was not really into it as I had pressing responsibilities and a lot of other things on my mind. It felt a bit like gradeschool, being force to do something before getting to recess. Or, a bit like filling out and returning various forms to accomplish an otherwise simple goal.
I do understand the logic, the reasoning behind this requirement. I hate SPAM as much as the next member. But why must it be five posts? Why wouldn't a mere two posts do the job?
Either that, or why not add a "Suggestion Box" to the site entrance? (Perhaps an email address?) It's the little things that add up... |
