3) It has a web interface, so you don't get the 'come visit my webcam' bots and their variations wasting resources in the services.

To this I was refering to the registration purposes on the network.

5) You never have, and still cannot kick/kill a service client.

I do belive that Unreal or Anope have finally fixed this problem recently.

To this I was refering to /kick of the bot. not /kill.

I agree with you completely marc.

I like networks without services alot. First came first taking it.
I barely chat on irc and the network I'm netadmin of takes most of my hobby time but when i really really have nothing to do I hang out on undernet
that place has X too and well I've never got to register my room lol so It's my eggdrop keeping it for when I'm offline Smile
idk, I like that. if there was a chanserv there would be no need to fight for my channie.. just another point of view i guess

I understand my channel needs chanserv and nickserv. Chanserv keeps your room from getting stolen. I wouldn't want my channel stolen. Nickserv keeps your nickname from getting stolen or giving your nickname a bad name such as a script kiddie. Without nickserv anyone could just use they username and act like someone else. It could really damage networks.

Thanks.

A network _cant_ survive witouth any kind of services. Even EFnet has some sort of services. All you basicly need is something to keep you're ops.

X does the same job as ChanServ, but in my opinion a lot better.
I mentioned the mere fact that we're on a network with under 50 clients. Everybody would know each other to some description on a network this size, everybody would know what ISP the *real* person is from, and if not, they'd know their username. It doesn't take a brain scientist to figure out if its really Peter or if it's not.

If you believe loading up 500 service bots and saying that they make your network, good on ya! It's the bloody users that make up the network, not me. Not my X. Not my hub. THE USERS. Without them, it'd be a bunch of opers bitching about being bored.

And while we're talking about *my* things, this is my thread, go post your spam elsewhere.

You could run a channel without services....

It just takes a lot of friends and a lot of skills to pull it off....

If you don't want your nickname stolen just have a BNC and a eggdrop or a bunch of friends who idle 24/7....

I think the Nickserv and Chanserv features are very nice, but you could also take the standpoint that people make themselves responsible for handling their own channel using an administrative bot of their own. Nickserv however seems like a necessary tool if you want people to have their own unique, recognizable identifiers.
