New stuff:

- Front page has been changed around. Now seen on the bottom of the front page will be the SearchIRC headlines. There isn't anything there yet, but watch for it :)

- Because of the headlines were so far down on the page, and because I didn't want to remove the chat directory from the front page, I decided to compress the chat directory down to just it's major sections, and remove the bold font. This seems to have done the job nicely.

Actually I wanted to make an icon for the chat directory and move it into the string of icons (irc images, whois online, irc quotes, etc), but I think that might make the chat directory a lot less visible.

- We now have a mailing list. Go to this url to sign up:
http://searchirc.com/boards/groupcp.php?g=1570

You will see the link to the mailing list from sitemap and faq pages too.

- Network server lists now display the server's realname info (when available) in the previously unused space to the right of each server. If the realname info is >35 characters, it's cut off, but if you mouse-over the server itself, you'll see the complete text.

As you can see here, forum posts now have bubbles around the text, just like the comic books.

Also, on http://searchirc.com/add-network.php, you will notice there is a new link that lets you see all the networks that are under review or have been reviewed.

Network administrators who have a SearchIRC login name should contact us or /server irc.searchirc.org and speak with us about getting access to modify their network information directly. This method will result in much faster network information updates (Taking hours instead of days to update).

We need to speak with you directly in order to ensure that we're giving access to the correct individual, and not just anyone who wants it.

(I've posted this on the front page too, since it's a pretty important change)

Fixed the problem with DALnet channels not being collected. DALnet channels should start appearing again.

SearchIRC rebooted @ 11:30 AM EST for server upgrade. Downtime ~4 mins.

Added functionality to the Network search:

In addition to searching for network names, and alternate names for networks, it now lets you search for server names.

Lets say you know an irc server, it starts with "irc.chat..." something. Enter that, and you'll see what servers SearchIRC knows about that may match it:

How about networks and servers that contain "quake"?

Problems fixed:

1) We found that some networks prevent the use of digits in the name. The robots now take that into account and can figure out if that is preventing them from connecting (because the default bot nick is "scrawlXX" where X = digit).

2) Some networks issue an "End of list" numeric to users upon connecting which gets rid of some bots. It also got rid of the SearchIRC robot. We now take that into consideration too, and no longer drop the connection when it sees the end of list numeric.

New functionality:

We now store ircd version and server options. These values are now displayed under the motd. Example:

Added a new IRCd server version list:

http://searchirc.com/ircd-versions

Keep in mind that is has just gone active, so it will take a few days for the indexers to start flushing out and gathering ircd info.

Another server reboot this afternoon around 12:40pm EST.

This was a major OS upgrade, and should show some speed increases on the site.
