Perhaps instead of just setting up a whole network, an easier idea might just be setting up a channel somewhere. Would save the maintenance time of the SearchIRC staff and still allow them to get the information they need.

Cue "hey, it's on network XXX, that's not fair!". :)

FuRiOuS, magpie is 100% correct - SearchIRC won't ever set up a channel on a network, because doing so would show favoritism to that network.

When we felt we had a need for a channel, Jason hacked up an old version of ircu so we could have ONE channel - #searchirc No services, no bots, users couldn't message each other or set up channels. It was the worst network ever created - and we wanted it that way, because we didn't want to run an IRC network. We just wanted a non-affiliated channel.

Truth is, not many people knew it existed, even though we've been sitting there so long I have moss growing between my toes and Peer's hair turned blue. Since there wasn't much purpose to it any more, Jason closed it.

If there's enough interest I am sure we can convince him to change his mind... irc.searchirc.com is deceased, not removed.

I did forget about the favortism part when I suggested it. Some people would start screaming that instantly. Such a shame really, stuff like that has bad consequences all around.

Why not set up a web based chat instead? Something like an ajax shoutbox.

That livechat only works if you first sign in on ircimages.com. You can use your searchirc forum login/pass
