Someone decided to help harden the web server by launching a denial of service attack this morning. Unfortunately I was off at work and couldn't deal with it till I got home.
It's still being attacked, but a few network tweaks and it's good as gone. |

| Any idea as to why someone would want to do that? Aside from the terrible reason of thinking that it's cool. |

| Jason: Out of interest, and if you don't mind my asking, what sort of additional financial costs (if any) do you have to bear due to a DoS attack on searchirc? |

i get mildly annoyed. which causes me to drive like a manaic. I then run over some people who got in my way, which causes my car insurance to go up.
So I'd say about $400 a year. |

| Heh, well I was thinking in terms of bandwidth costs, but I guess I've just learnt the true human costs of DoS attacks. :) |

| Karma dictates they will get theirs in the end. Probably in the form of an FBI raid or something, as they will likely DoS the wrong people (people who can actually fight back legally) eventually. |
