I must say that they are doing a kick ass job down there, myself and serval sites that I host run DNS through them, granted its been laggy a bit over the last few days but has never gone 100% out, once they are back on their feet I highly recommend them as one of best providers for items, they are quick, and hell they managed to get through a cat4 hurricane and keep their servers up.

Yesterday I've posted a story about this channel as well on IRC-Junkie, for those who like to know more about it. (IRC-Junkie's feed is just so low on the total feed on SearchIRC's frontpage almost noone catches it I guess :\ )

Asmo, I actually tried to reach you to find out if you knew how Gator made out in the Hurricane. As I recall he lived very close to the Gulf. I wasn't able to locate him on Undernet.

As for your newsfeed, if you can hold Jason down, I'll be more than happy to smack him around a little for ya.

The news feed was lowered recently due to the fact that no updates had happened for half a month. I can't have that be the first feed that's displayed if it has the same information every day. Maybe the thing to do is randomly pick which feed to show at the top.

I rarely see Gator online these days Mary, mustev been at least 6 months ago I'm afraid ...

The news have been slow indeed, there simply wasnt much to report unfortunally. Trust me, each morning I take about 30 to 60 minutes to check my resources (also for my other sites) and so! I can always act like a servers.ini and report about new/gone servers on networks ofcourse ;)

I dont know too much about feeds...but cant you remove the really old news from the feed? That would be better.

The marsh(sp?)lands are much higher then the city, not? He shouldve been on much saver ground then if he wouldve been in the city...

I'll see if I can pull some strings here and there and find out about Gator.

The city didn't get a direct hit from the hurricane when it passed by, so wind damage wasn't bad. We all breathed a sigh of relief and went to bed thinking the city had been spared. The NEXT DAY the city started to flood. The city said, "not a big problem" helicopters would drop 3000 lb sandbags in the breach in the levee and the flooding would stop. It WAS a problem. The sandbags simply washed away in the fast moving water, and the city flooded deeper and deeper. By Wednesday, people were standing on their roofs screaming for help and the initial response teams (called in to evacuate 10,000 from the Superdome) were overwhelmed by the size and immediacy of the disaster when they had to evacuate over 300,000 people from the city.

What is not being as well publicized is the fact that everything along the coastline to the east of the city was crushed by the hurricane. Miles and miles of homes, hotels and businesses were simply wiped off the map by a 20-40 foot storm surge, very similar to the Indonesian tsunami. The government is saying there's a 90,000 sq mile (234,000 sq kilometers) area of destruction, which is a land mass approximately the size of Great Britain.
